Vals Rock #3 speaks of the interrelationships between the natural and built environments. It does so through the melding of gneiss with concrete, but also as a ring, an object for the hand. The hand symbolizes labour, a manifestation of the strong connection between natural resources and the built world. Thus, the hand as a junction between thought and action, which performs activities consciously and unconsciously, becomes a symbolic site for the Vals Rock series of rings.
